All 8 Photo Locations at a Glance

This table follows the order most players reach each area. Three photos are available from the start, and the rest need the garage, Grill or Greenhouse unlocked. Every guide and video we checked agrees on these spots.

Photos 1 to 3: Shed, Porch and Court

Walk into the shed and turn to the left wall to find photo one on the pinboard, in the bottom corner of the board with two posters. Photo two is on the porch railing, near the corner that faces the trash can. Both are available the moment you start.

Photo three is the first tricky one. Go to the basketball Court, stand in the corner behind the basket and look up. The photo is on the back of the backboard.

Photos 4 to 6: Garage, Swings and Basement

These three open once you get into the garage with the shed button. Step inside the garage and look down at the right wall, and photo four is on the floor. Go out the back door and turn left around the corner to find photo five on top of the electrical box.

Photo six is in the Basement, on the shelf to your left as you enter. It sits next to a big wine bottle in the middle cell of the farthest column. The vent to the secret room is right beside this shelf.

Photos 7 and 8: Grill and Greenhouse

Photo seven needs the Grill area, which opens after you clean the Shed. Turn left as soon as you enter and look to the right of the wooden door into the house. The photo sits on the foundation.

Photo eight needs the Greenhouse, which opens after a fully cleaned Pool. Entering through the Maze, you will see a scarecrow straight away. The photo is on the inside of its coat.

Why Players Get Stuck at 7/8

The scarecrow photo is the most common missing piece, because it is inside the coat lining rather than on the outside. The Court backboard and Swings power box photos are also above eye level. Look up and inside before assuming a photo is bugged.

Check your journal counter after each area to see exactly which photo is missing. The counter shows x/8 for the set. Matching it against this list usually finds the gap quickly.

Say Leaf! and Perfectionist

Collecting all eight photos unlocks Say Leaf!, held by 41.5% of Steam players. It also completes the "Collect mysterious photos" journal objective. That objective is one of the 14 needed for Perfectionist.

The photos give no money or tool bonuses, so you can collect them whenever it suits you. You can even return after the ending, because the save stays playable. Most players grab them during a normal 100% run.

How to Reach the Locked Photos

Photos four to six sit behind the garage, which opens from a button in the shed. Hold it until the TV shows the door fully open, then sprint inside. Once in, the garage stays open for good.

The Grill photo needs the Shed area cleaned, which gives you the key to the big wooden gate. The Greenhouse photo needs a fully clean Pool, which opens the hedge gate to the Maze. The area unlock guide lists every step.

Watch the Locations

Callam001's short video shows all eight photos in 42 seconds and has over 26,000 views. Its chapters use nearby area names, such as Entrance for the porch railing and Pool for the Grill door. J1M101's guide has a chapter for each photo plus the secret room.

Gamerotti and TigerWhite529 also have quick photo videos. Jsleek21 combines the photo spots with 15 general tips. All of them match the table on this page.

An Efficient Photo Route

Grab the Shed, Porch and Court photos in your first few minutes. Pick up the Garage photo the moment you get inside, then the Swings photo on the way out the back door. Take the Basement photo while cleaning the Basement.

Grab the Grill photo as you first walk into the Grill area. The scarecrow photo comes when you first reach the Greenhouse through the Maze. That way you never make a special trip.

What the Photos Unlock

All eight photos unlock Say Leaf! and finish one of the 14 journal objectives. They give no money, tools or bonuses. The reward is purely the achievement and the completion.

That makes them a relaxing side task between cleaning sessions. Collect each one as its area opens and you will finish the set naturally. The full route above takes only a few extra seconds per photo.

Photo Locations FAQ

Which photo do most players miss? The Greenhouse photo inside the scarecrow's coat. The Court backboard photo is second, because you must look up. The Swings photo on the high power box is third.

Do I need the secret room for any photo? No, none of the eight are in the secret room. The basement photo is just next to the vent. You can collect all of them before finishing the game.

Looking for the Castle and Sakura Cards?

The photos only exist on the original Hometown map. Castle and Sakura, added in the free 1.1 update, each have eight cards of their own. They unlock Poker Hand and Gotta Find 'em All.

Find them in our card locations guide. For the Castle set alone, see the royal deck page. For a quick overview of all sets, read Leaf it Alone photos.
