Leaf it Alone Secret Room Guide

Last updated: November 2, 2026

The secret room in Leaf it Alone is reached through a vent in the Basement. To open it you must clean the Greenhouse to 100%, which gives you the key, and clean the Swings area to 100%, which unlocks crouching. Then open the vent cover at the back of the Basement, crouch and crawl all the way through to reach the secret room and the ending.

What You Need Before You Can Enter

The secret room is the final stop of the original Hometown map, so it only opens once two late-game areas are done. The first requirement is the Greenhouse, which unlocks after you clean the Pool to 100%. Clearing every leaf in the Greenhouse hands you the key that opens the basement vent.

The second requirement is the crouch ability, which you earn by cleaning the Swings area to 100%. The Swings area sits behind the garage, so you will already have it available once the garage is open. Crouch uses CTRL by default, and the vent is too low to enter without it.

Greenhouse cleaned 100%Clean the Pool to unlock the Greenhouse, then clear itGives the key to the basement vent
Swings cleaned 100%Enter through the garage back door and clear itUnlocks Crouch, needed to fit in the vent

How to Enter the Secret Room Step by Step

Head to the Basement once both requirements are complete. Walk to the back wall, where the shelf holding the last mysterious photo stands. The vent cover is right next to that shelf, so turn right from it and interact with the cover to open it.

Crouch and crawl into the vent, then keep going as far as the tunnel takes you. The crawl ends in the secret room, which triggers the ending cutscene. Opening the vent and reaching the room unlocks the story achievement Infiltrator.

  • Go to the Basement through the backyard.
  • Face the back wall next to the shelf with the last photo.
  • Open the vent cover with the Greenhouse key.
  • Hold Crouch and crawl to the end of the vent.

The Shortest Route to the Secret Room

You do not need to clean all 13 areas to reach the ending. The story only requires a chain of unlocks: get into the garage, clear the Basement, the Shed, the Pool, the Greenhouse and the Swings. That is exactly the route speedrunners use for the Need for Sweep achievement.

To get into the garage you need either the sprint ability from the Court or the speed bonus from the Front Yard or Driveway. Hold the button in the shed until the TV shows the garage door fully open, then run for it. Many players back up their save before trying, because the door closes quickly.

Achievements Tied to the Secret Room

Reaching the secret room is the moment several Hometown achievements pop. Infiltrator unlocks as you open the vent and enter. If you never repaired a single leaf inlet, Craftsman unlocks too, and if every journal objective is done, Perfectionist unlocks as well.

Be careful with Work smart, not hard, which asks you to earn $700 in one run. Guides warn that money earned after the ending does not count toward it. Hit the $700 total before you crawl into the vent, or you will need a new save to try again.

  • Infiltrator: enter the secret room.
  • Craftsman (15.5% of players): finish without repairing any leaf inlets.
  • Perfectionist (25.3%): complete all journal objectives first.
  • Work smart, not hard (10.3%): reach $700 earned before the ending.

What Happens After the Ending

The game does not lock your save once the ending plays. You can keep playing the same file afterwards and finish any objectives, photos or areas you skipped. The Secret Room itself is not one of the 13 areas, so it does not count for Leaf No Leaf Behind.

Since patch 1.0.14 you can also skip the end cutscene, which helps on repeat runs. That patch also fixed lighting glitches inside the vent and the FOV setting affecting the ending camera. Patch 1.0.12 fixed the secret room CCTV so it shows leaf bags correctly.

Tips Before You Crawl In

Grab the eighth mysterious photo on the basement shelf before you enter, since it sits right beside the vent. It completes Say Leaf! if you already have the other seven. You can still collect it later, but it is easiest to take it on the way.

If you are hunting achievements, decide what this run is for before finishing. A no-inlet run for Craftsman and a $700 run for Work smart, not hard can be combined. Need for Sweep, the under-40-minute achievement, is usually done on a separate save.

Getting Through the Garage First

Every path to the secret room starts at the garage, because the Basement and Swings sit behind it. A button inside the shed, just left of the door, lifts the garage door while you hold it. A TV in the shed shows how far the door has risen.

Wait until the TV shows the door fully open, then let go and run. The door closes slowly, so sprint from the Court or a speed bonus from the Front Yard or Driveway is enough. Once you are inside, the garage stays open for good.

Reaching and Cleaning the Greenhouse

The Greenhouse opens once the Pool is 100% clean, including its rim and the sun loungers. A small gate in the hedge then leads through the Maze, which is one winding path with no dead ends. You can also enter from the big wooden gate in the Swings area.

Inside, leaves pile up under the benches and against the glass walls. Patch 1.0.3 made pulling leaves from under the benches easier, and many players blow everything inside out toward the inlet first. Clearing the last Greenhouse leaf hands you the key to the vent.

Unlocking Crouch in the Swings Area

The Swings area is behind the garage, reached through the garage back door. Cleaning it to 100% unlocks the crouch ability, the last of the three abilities for Almighty. Without crouch, the vent opening is too low to enter.

The Swings area also has a leaf inlet on the back of the garage that costs $6 to repair. Speedrunners repair it and sweep leaves straight in. If you are going for Craftsman, clean it by hand or with tools instead.

Secret Room FAQ

Can I enter the vent without cleaning the Greenhouse? No, the Greenhouse key is required to open the vent cover. You also need Crouch from the Swings area. Both are needed together.

Is the secret room on the Castle or Sakura maps? No, it is the ending of the original Hometown map. The Castle and Sakura maps added in update 1.1 have their own story endings and achievements. See our area unlock guide for those maps.
